Why 11trees?

The average teacher collects over 11 trees-worth of paper from their students in a single year: by asking students to write essays, by creating handouts and quizzes, through printing syllabi etc.(This is based on a ream
of paper requiring 6% of a 'standard' tree and calculating out the numbers of pages generated by an average class etc.).

11trees.com is dedicated to helping reduce our carbon footprint while improving teaching. Along with general resources on saving paper, better teaching through technology (where appropriate), we are releasing our first product: Annotate for Microsoft Word.

For Teachers...

11trees.com released Annotate for Microsoft Word (free and PRO versions) in October 2008. Annotate makes it easy to insert comments into a Word document. The PRO version adds 70+ pre-written comments in crucial writing areas like organization, argument, MLA/APA citation formatting, and grammar.

In 2009, 11trees will release its Writers' Handbook, bringing the first online, aesthetically organized basic writing handbook to the masses. With these projects, we hope to help teachers create better feedback for students on
their writing, and to help students more clearly understand and reflect on the feedback they receive.

For Students...

Students face a bewildering array of writing resources online. So many, that it is difficult to know what to use, what to discount, and how to efficiently find needed information. 11trees is dedicated to getting better resources into student hands, more efficiently than ever before.

Annotate for Word
is a simple (but mighty!) add-in for Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007 that improves and unifies Word's basic commenting features as well as adding custom buttons for frequent comments. Annotate for Word is free.

Annotate for Word PRO takes feedback to a new level. Teachers don't need to remember arcane editing symbols, and neither do their students. To comment on the placement of a citation using MLA? Or when to use a semicolon? A teacher just highlights and clicks.

Annotate for Word PRO includes over 70 pre-written comments in Argument, Evidence, Organization, Writing Style, and Grammar/Mechanics. Detailed comments on MLA and APA citation styles are included.Teachers can easily create their own assignment-specific text add it to a document with two clicks.
