Annotate for Mac Office 2004 is a lightweight add-in for Microsoft Word. Installation will only take a few minutes, and you can easily uninstall the add-in at any time. We offer a free version, and a PRO version.

Note: Annotate for Mac Office 2004 does NOT work with Mac Office 2008 (unfortunately). This is due to limitations with Mac Office 2008 that Microsoft hopes to remedy in Mac Office 2010 (2011?)...

Free Version

The free version of Annotate has many features that make commenting on student work more efficient and effective. The hard to read comment bubbles you normally get with Word 2004 are replaced with a larger, more elegant font. Key Word 2004 functions, like Open File, Email Attachment, and Insert Comment are all on ONE toolbar/menu, along with custom buttons to insert comments in key areas.

PRO Version

Annotate for Mac Office 2004 PRO is available to individuals for $45. This fee covers all bug fixes and minor updates. We may release additional features in the future and make them available for upgrade pricing. We will also keep pace with developments in Microsoft Word (2009, anyone?) and also offer upgrade pricing.

Step 1: Download the Annotate for Mac Office 2004 Template

Make sure you have exited Microsoft Word before beginning this process.

Annotate for Word 2004 can be installed and uninstalled in seconds. The first step is to download the Annotate for Word 2004 Template. Make sure you download it to a folder that you can easily locate (like your desktop):

Step 2: Make a Copy of Annotate for Mac Office 2004

You should make a copy of the file, and store it somewhere safe. Should you ever need to reinstall Annotate, you can use this backup. You can also use it on additional personal computers that you use (school/home etc.).

Step 3: Paste Annotate into your Microsoft Word STARTUP folder

Paste a copy of Annotate for Mac Office 2004 into your Microsoft Word 2004 Startup folder. This will ensure Annotate starts every time you open Microsoft Word. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Word startup folder: Mac HD/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Startup/Word
  2. Delete any previous versions of Annotate for Mac Office 2004 that you find in the Startup folder.
  3. Paste Annotate for Mac Office 2004 into the Word Startup folder

  4. Unzip (or Open) the file to unzip it.
  5. Open Microsoft Word 2004

  6. You should see the Annotate menu (just to the right of the File menu), and have an Annotate toolbar.
