The average teacher collects over 11 trees-worth of paper from their students in a single year: by asking students to write essays, by creating handouts and quizzes, through printing syllabi etc. (This is based on a ream of paper requiring 6% of a 'standard' tree and calculating out the numbers of pages generated by an average class etc.). 11trees.com is dedicated to helping reduce our carbon footprint while improving teaching. Along with general resources on saving paper, better teaching through technology (where appropriate), we released our first product in October 2008: Annotate for Microsoft Word College Edition. Since then, we've released a Legal Writing Edition of Annotate, and The Writers' Toolkit, a free resource for writers that embeds a writing handbook inside of Microsoft Word. Instead of reaching for an $80 textbook, or searching the web for resources that may or may not be correct, The Writers' Toolkit brings the best information on writing to a toolbar of plain-text comments. With over 25 years teaching at the college level, the founders of 11trees are intent on building better, more affordable tools for teachers, students, and writers of all ages. |
